Pedestrian & Cyclist Walkway at St Athens, Barry

We at Aber Wrought Iron Limited are proud to announce the completion of a major infrastructure project for the Vale of Glamorgan Council on Eglwys Brewis Road, St. Athan, Barry. This custom solution showcases our commitment to durable, safe, and aesthetically refined walkways, carefully designed to meet the specific needs of the community.

Project Overview

Our team designed, fabricated, and installed two expansive walkways:

• Walkway 1: Spanning 120 meters in length and 4.8 meters in width
• Walkway 2: Measuring 80 meters in length and also 4.8 meters wide

Both walkways feature a robust steel framework that has been hot-dip galvanised to ensure superior corrosion resistance, ensuring long-term durability against the elements.

Structural Details

To provide solid support for these walkways, we incorporated:

• 2mm Thick Galvanised C-Section Purlins: Spaced every 450mm and manufactured in 3-meter sections, these purlins create a strong base for the decking and contribute to the structural integrity of the walkways.

Decking: Innodek Procap in Charcoal Grey

The walkways are topped with Innodek Procap composite decking in a sleek charcoal grey finish. This decking material is not only attractive but also highly practical:

• Slip Rating of R11: With an R11 slip resistance rating, the decking provides enhanced safety by reducing the risk of slips, especially in wet conditions, making it ideal for outdoor pedestrian use.

Custom Powder-Coated Railings

To further enhance both the safety and appearance of these walkways, we custom-fabricated steel railings for both sides of the paths. These railings were:

• Powder Coated in RAL 8008: A warm, earthy tone that blends seamlessly with the surroundings.
• Handrails Powder Coated in RAL 6010: For an added touch, the handrails were powder-coated in a rich green, RAL 6010, creating a visually appealing contrast while ensuring durability against wear.
